VĨNH LONG — A new climate-resilient circular agriculture model was launched on July 4 in the Mekong Delta province of Vĩnh Long, aiming to promote green, circular and sustainable agricultural development in the region.
The pilot project, called "Cái Ngang Xanh" (Green Cái Ngang), is located in the province’s Cái Ngang Commune.
It is part of the Green Hero Solution Project, jointly implemented by the Food Bank Vietnam Network, the Youth Union of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and the Embassy of Denmark in Việt Nam.
Speaking at the launching event, Sanne Høj Andrén, Agriculture and Food Counsellor at the Danish Embassy, highlighted the urgency of adapting to climate change.
"Transitioning to a green, climate-resilient agriculture and developing a circular economy is not just a trend, but an urgent requirement to ensure food security, use resources efficiently, and reduce environmental impacts."
As 2026 marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Viet Nam, Andrén noted that agriculture and food remain central to bilateral cooperation.
Through this project, Denmark aims to support Vietnamese partners in deploying solutions to enhance climate resilience and reduce food loss across the value chain.
Nguyễn Thụy Yến Phương, Secretary of the Party Committee and chairwoman of the People's Council of Cái Ngang Commune, said the commune manages over 5,243 hectares of agricultural land, specialising in high-value crops such as red-fleshed jackfruit, durian, coconut, and lime.
While local farmers have progressively adopted VietGAP standards, the commune continues to face hurdles in deep processing, product consumption, and attracting investment for green economic development.
“This project is expected to help the commune improve its circular agricultural ecosystem, add value to local produce, and raise farmers' incomes.”
The initiative focuses on shifting production habits and building a community-driven green agricultural ecosystem, Nguyễn Tuấn Khởi, chairman of Food Bank Vietnam, said.
"What we desire is not just a successful model on launching day, but one that continues to grow years later," he said.
When farmers are equipped with knowledge, tools, and confidence, and see the economic benefits of circular agriculture, they themselves will expand this model across the community, he said.
During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Green Hero Solution Project and the Cái Ngang Commune People's Committee to formalise implementation.
The organisers also distributed 50 sets of agricultural tools, including organic composting bins and microbial products, to participating households to facilitate the processing of agricultural by-products and reduce input costs.
