HCM CITY — A total of 329 young individuals were honoured as "Advanced Youth Following Uncle Hồ’s Teachings" at a ceremony held by the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union of HCM City on Monday.

The event marked the 50th anniversary of Sài Gòn–Gia Định officially being renamed after President Hồ Chí Minh (July 2, 1976–2026) and welcomed the success of the 13th National Congress of the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union.

The honorees represent various fields, including academics, scientific research, labour, business, national defence, security, arts, and culture.

Among them are prominent figures in the entertainment industry, such as singers Phương Mỹ Chi and Nguyễn Duyên Quỳnh.

Through the awards, the city Youth Union aims to recognise the dedication of young people in studying and following the ideology, morality, and lifestyle of President Hồ Chí Minh, thereby inspiring the youth to further contribute to society.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lê Quốc Phong, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee, said under the Politburo’s Resolution No. 09 on HCM City’s development in the new era, the city expects its youth to maintain a spirit of lifelong learning.

Learning should extend beyond classrooms into daily work and practical experiences to meet the country's growing developmental demands, he said.

"Every young person should not only be a proficient technology user but also a creator and master of technology to solve real-world problems.”

The city’s signature spirit of daring to think and daring to do must be carried forward by the younger generation, Phong added.

Among the awardees, singer Phương Mỹ Chi attended the congress as an official delegate, having previously been named one of "HCM City’s Outstanding Young Citizens" in 2024.

Chi was also commended by the municipal People’s Committee for her continuous efforts to preserve and promote traditional Vietnamese culture through contemporary music.

At the event, she performed the song 'Made in Việt Nam', composed and produced by DTAP, reflecting the cultural identity and patriotic spirit of the gathering.

"Being part of the congress is a great honour. It is not only an acknowledgement of my past efforts but also motivation for me to continue preserving cultural values and inspiring positive energy among the youth," she said. — VNS
