HCM CITY — A total of 133,489 candidates participated in the first phase of the 2026 Vietnam Academic Competency Test (V-ACT) organised by the Việt Nam National University-HCM City (VNU-HCM) on April 5, representing 98.3 per cent of registered applicants.
The exam results are currently utilised by more than 100 universities and colleges nationwide for their admission processes.
The first phase was conducted across 57 units in 15 provinces and cities, including Huế, Đà Nẵng, Quảng Ngãi, Gia Lai, Đắk Lắk, Khánh Hòa, Lâm Đồng, HCM City, Đồng Nai, Tây Ninh, Đồng Tháp, Vĩnh Long, An Giang, Cần Thơ, and Cà Mau. Results are expected to be announced on April 17.
According to the organising committee, all stages of the exam—from printing and securing to transporting exam papers—were implemented under strict procedures in coordination with authorities to ensure absolute safety.
At testing sites, proctoring and supervision were carried out in accordance with regulations to ensure objectivity and transparency.
The structure and content of the 2026 V-ACT follow the adjusted format introduced in 2025, aligning with the 2018 General Education Programme.
The test aims to comprehensively assess candidates' suitability for higher education while ensuring fairness and equal access to university opportunities.
After eight years of implementation, the V-ACT has established itself as a reliable recruitment method. In 2025, the exam attracted approximately 152,000 candidates.
Within the VNU-HCM system, this admission method accounts for more than 56 per cent of the total enrollment quota.
Registration for the second phase will run from April 18 to 25.
The second exam is scheduled for May 24 across 36 units in nine provinces and cities, with results expected on June 6. — VNS
