GIA LAI - Amid the complex developments of Storm No 13, which is forecast to be a strong, fast-moving system with the potential for significant damage, authorities in Gia Lai Province on November 6 urgently implemented plans to relocate residents living in high-risk areas to safer locations.
From early morning, Party committees and local authorities, particularly in coastal localities such as Hoài Nhơn Bắc Ward, mobilised all available on-the-spot forces to carry out the evacuation.
Working teams were dispatched to every neighbourhood and household, especially in vulnerable areas along the shoreline, to provide information, guidance and assistance as residents packed belongings and moved to designated storm-shelter sites.
Huỳnh Minh Thư, a resident of Thị Chánh 1 neighbourhood, said: “I immediately brought my wife, children and grandchildren to the shelter as instructed to ensure our safety.”
According to Trần Minh Lâm, vice chairman of the Hoài Nhơn Bắc Ward People’s Committee, the ward has prepared to evacuate more than 700 households, totalling around 3,000 people.
Shelters have been arranged at schools and cultural centres, solid structures that meet safety requirements and are equipped with electricity, water and essential supplies for residents during the storm.
The evacuation is being conducted swiftly yet orderly and safely.
Authorities, the Fatherland Front and local mass organisations remain on duty to listen to residents’ concerns and provide timely support so that evacuees can feel secure in their temporary accommodation.
“People are reassured and grateful. The shelters are well organised and fully equipped for daily needs,” Huỳnh Văn Gương, from Cửu Lợi Nam neighbourhood, shared.
Phạm Tiến Dũng, secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Hoài Nhơn Ward, added: “All households living in grade-4 or otherwise unsafe houses have been fully evacuated. The ward has arranged 16-seat vehicles to transport families without means of travel.”
At present, tens of thousands of households across Gia Lai Province residing in high-risk zones have been moved to safe areas.
Functional forces continue to inspect and review all locations to ensure no residents remain in danger, with the highest determination to protect lives and property ahead of Storm No. 13’s expected landfall. - VNS
