LẠNG SƠN — Police in Lạng Sơn Province have detained four foreign nationals suspected of attacking a taxi driver on National Highway 1A late on Sunday.

According to investigators, at around 11pm, container truck driver Hoàng Đức Quyết, 45, was travelling along National Highway 1A in Đông Kinh Ward when he spotted a car swerving off the road. A person then jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.

Quyết stopped to check and found the driver inside the car with a severe neck injury. He immediately called the police.

The victim was identified as Nguyễn Văn Định, 40, a taxi driver from Đào Viên Ward, Bắc Ninh Province. He was taken to Việt Đức Friendship Hospital in Hà Nội and has since stabilised.

Police swiftly cordoned off the scene and soon detained four foreign nationals suspected of involvement.

Initial findings indicate the suspects had illegally entered Việt Nam through a broker to seek jobs. While being driven towards Hà Nội by driver Định, they allegedly thought they were being deceived and stabbed him in the neck with a knife before fleeing the scene.

The local police are continuing to investigate the case. — VNS
