HCM CITY — In response to prolonged flooding that has caused severe damage in northern mountainous provinces, the SOS Food project – an emergency food platform founded and operated by the Vietnam Food Bank Network – has launched a campaign to deliver essential supplies to flood-affected communities in Thái Nguyên, Cao Bằng and Sơn La.

Founded in 2024, SOS Food applies technology to humanitarian work with support from the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee in HCM City and various enterprises and social organisations.

The platform functions as an “emergency food map,” connecting relief centres, donors and people in need during natural disasters or food crises.

Nguyễn Tuấn Khởi, chairman of the Vietnam Food Bank Network and founder of SOS Food, said the project aims not only to provide short-term emergency aid but also to build a sustainable system to ensure timely, transparent and safe food access for disaster-prone communities.

The 2025 campaign is being implemented in cooperation with food enterprises, supermarket systems, local organisations and Foodbank Việt Nam volunteers.

“Emergency food supply points” have been set up in isolated or hard-to-reach areas to distribute rice, instant noodles, milk, drinking water and other necessities.

All data on needs and distribution are continuously updated on the SOS Food platform to ensure transparency and accuracy.

Beyond immediate relief, the programme also seeks to establish community food reserves in disaster-prone localities to strengthen resilience and recovery capacity.

The Vietnam Food Bank Network is calling on businesses, organisations and individuals at home and abroad to join hands by donating cash or goods to help affected residents stabilise their lives as soon as possible. — VNS
