HÀ NỘI — Businesses are focusing on maintaining production while taking care of workers' lives during the coming Lunar New Year holidays.

Most enterprises are preparing logistics to serve people on duty during Tết, give gifts to staff, provide subsidies for poor workers' families and provide bus tickets for workers living far away in order for them to return home for the holiday.

Bustling plants

During the final days of the Lunar New Year, at the DAP Vinachem Fertiliser Factory in the Đình Vũ Industrial Park, Hải Phòng northern port city, the production floors are bustling with urgency.

Deputy General Director of the company Nguyễn Ngọc Sơn said that the factory was dividing shifts to keep production running 24/7 in order to achieve VNĐ200 billion (US$7.8 million) in profit as planned.

This is also an opportunity for the company to increase manufacture to ensure the supply of 20,000 tonnes of fertiliser per month that farmers in southern areas need.

Typhoon Yagi in early September last year severely affected the production and trading of enterprises in Hải Phòng City.

But the business community was quick to restore normal operations, regaining growth momentum and contributing to the increase in the city's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) last year, up more than 11 per cent, with industrial production index increasing by 15 per cent.

In industrial parks in Bắc Giang northern province, these days are also the peak production period to complete orders, especially those from foreign direct investment (FDI) companies.

In addition, the enterprises’ trade unions urgently develop plans to pay salaries and bonuses to employees, ensuring that they can enjoy a full Tết holiday.

The GU Vina Co Ltd in the Đình Trám Industrial Park creates stable jobs for more than 400 employees with an average income of VNĐ8-9 million ($314-353) per person per month.

Production Deputy Director and Chairwoman of the company's Trade Union, Nguyễn Thị Thuý, said: "Although profits have decreased compared to 2023, due to the decrease in export product prices, the company still ensures that the bonuses for employees are not less than 50 per cent of the current monthly salary. In addition, the company commits to paying salaries on time, typically on the 15th of each month. If it is close to Tết holiday, we will pay earlier."

Despite being affected by the general economic difficulties, businesses in HCM City still strive to increase orders, continue to improve technology and save costs, thereby sustaining sales, maintaining production, and ensuring salaries and Tết bonuses for employees.

The Sài Gòn Food Joint Stock Company in Vĩnh Lộc Industrial Park, Bình Chánh District, is especially busy in the food processing sector. Its output is soaring due to the demands of Tết.

Trần Thị Kiều Oanh, the company's Human Resources Director, said that the company did not stop for even a single day, ensuring jobs for nearly 2,000 employees.

Thanks to this, export sales were up 17 per cent last year, and the company's total sales are estimated to increase by 15 per cent compared to 2023.

Thus, the company’s Board of Directors allocated VNĐ32 billion ($1.2 million) to care for employees.

Chairwoman of the Board of Members at the Nhị Bình Plastic Co Ltd Hoàng Ngọc Yến said the company would give two more monthly salaries to workers as their Tết bonus.

With a supportive policy for workers, the company believes that after a happy and warm Tết holiday, employees will return to work fully satisfied and on time.

Chairman of the Hải Phòng City Labour Federation Nguyễn Anh Tuân said that the city's trade unions at all levels called for the community and enterprises to focus on taking care of Tết for union members and workers with a total budget of more than VNĐ18 billion ($707,500).

Hải Phòng's trade unions at all levels plan to provide subsidies, gifts, and coach tickets for about 35,000 union members and workers, organise Tết fairs and free cancer screening and examination for 1,000 workers.

The Tết bonus is also maintained by the Nidec Việt Nam Co Ltd in the High-tech Park, Thủ Đức City, HCM City for 3,500 employees.

Lưu Kim Hồng, Chairman of the company's Trade Union, said that each employee would receive a bonus of one more month's salary and gifts worth VNĐ500,000 ($19).

The company will allocate 14 coaches to bring nearly 1,000 employees from the central and northern provinces back home for Tết.

Lê Đức Thọ, Deputy Chairman of the Bắc Giang Provincial Federation of Labour, said that the federation had prepared 10,000 sets of gifts for poor union members and workers, workers who stay to work and workers from far away who cannot return home.

The federation will hold a 'Trade Union Tết Market' from January 10 to 12 at the Thân Nhân Trung Square in Việt Yên Town.

There will be about 100 booths displaying and introducing products, services and selling preferential goods to workers, including a free-of-charge booth to support poor workers.

The federation distributed 10,000 discount coupons to union members and workers.

As an industrial development locality, Bình Dương southern province has more than 1.3 million workers in domestic and foreign-invested enterprises, with more than 80 per cent coming from different provinces and cities across the country.

The province has many policies to support workers, helping them stabilise their jobs and improve their lives.

The total estimated budget for caring for union members and workers during the Lunar New Year this year is about VNĐ322 billion ($12.6 million), of which VNĐ50 billion ($1.9 million) is from the provincial budget and VNĐ272 billion ($10.7) is from enterprises’ fund.

Deputy Director of the Bình Dương Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Phạm Văn Tuyên said that after checking salary and bonus data at nearly 1,700 enterprises in the area, the highest New Year bonus is expected to be VNĐ368 million ($14,400), provided by an FDI enterprise. — VNS
