HCM CITY – The HCM City labour market is recovering with production rebounding and the number of people claiming unemployment benefits declining sharply.

Since the beginning of 2024 nearly 81,000 people have been hired, 27 percent of the full-year jobs target, including 37,000 in newly created positions.

The city Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs said the unemployment rate fell by 1.27 per cent.

It organised seven job fairs and counselling sessions, which were attended by 27,584 people, and introduced job opportunities to 2,550 people.

In the first quarter the HCM City Employment Service Centre paid unemployment benefits to 28,535 applications, a 12 per cent decrease from a year earlier, as the job market recovered.

Production activities are showing positive signs with many businesses getting enough orders to keep them busy for the first half of the year. - VNS
