HCM CITY —  The southern province of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu is planning to start work on the Phước An bridge project in September this year, the provincial government stated.

The bridge will span over the Thị Vải River, with a total length of 4.3 kilometres, and at a cost of over VNĐ4.8 trillion (US$205 million), with VNĐ2 trillion sourced from the State budget and the remaining from the province's budget.

The project is expected to be completed in five years.

Once completed, the bridge will link Phú Mỹ Town of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu with Nhơn Trạch District in neighbouring Đồng Nai Province.

The construction of this bridge is expected to improve the connection between Cái Mép-Thị Vải Port and other provinces in the southern economic zone, and to reduce the load on roads around the port, including National Route 5.

Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu has allocated VNĐ100 billion for the construction of the bridge. The Cái Mép-Thị Vải management board of traffic projects is actively working to accelerate the capital disbursement.

The board is currently working on a compensation plan, as suggested by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to submit to the Government.

As for site clearance, the authority of Phú Mỹ has said it awaits the above policies to be approved to pay compensation for households affected by the project. — VNS
