ĐỒNG NAI — The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) held a ground-breaking ceremony for the start of piling work at the passenger terminal of the Long Thành International Airport project on Wednesday.
The passenger terminal is the most important work of the Long Thành Airport project. It has a complex technical nature, which applies advanced and modern technologies to compete with international aviation hubs in the region.
The construction of piles – the foundation of the passenger terminal – is the core item to determine the progress of the entire project, according to the ACV.
The contractors will construct bored piles with diameters of 800mm, 1000mm and 1200mm with 1,560 piles.
The piling construction package is scheduled to be completed in October, 2022.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Chairman of ACV's Board of Directors Lại Xuân Thanh said that the groundbreaking of the pile bidding package for the Long Thành Airport’s passenger terminal is a very important milestone to implement the next steps of the project.
He affirmed the ACV's commitment to ensuring the progress of the project.
"The bidding packages of Phase 1 of the Long Thành Airport Project are on the right track. In early September 2025, Long Thành Airport will be put into operation," he said.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, the contractors committed to fully mobilising human resources, machinery and vehicles to keep the construction of piles for the passenger terminal on schedule and ensure the construction quality.
Long Thành International Airport is a special national project on an area of 5,000 hectares. In phase one, the construction of one runway, one passenger terminal and ancillary items with a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo per year started in early 2021 on an area of more than 1,800ha.
After more than a year of implementation, the investor of Long Thành Airport has almost completed demining and building fences in the area. Currently, the construction units are mobilising forces to carry out levelling and drainage.
It is expected that the investor will complete the appraisal of the passenger terminal body and select a construction contractor by this June.
The construction of other infrastructures such as runways, taxiways, aircraft parking will be simultaneously started at the end of this year and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024.
