Hà Nội reports record high of nearly 2,500 new COVID cases, 14,861 infections nationwide

HÀ NỘI — The city of Hà Nội registered a record high of 2,499 new daily COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, as a total of 14,861 transmissions were confirmed nationwide.

It was the third consecutive day the capital had over 2,000 cases, and it was again the leading locality for transmissions.

Of the daily caseload, 32 were imported, the rest domestic and 10,864 community transmissions. 

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,800,704.

Other localities reporting new infections were Tây Ninh (916), Khánh Hòa (797), HCM City (664), Bình Định (608), Hải Phòng (602), Bình Phước (593), Cà Mau (450), Vĩnh Long (431), Bến Tre (420), Đắk Lắk (367), Bắc Ninh (342), Thanh Hóa (286), Thừa Thiên Huế (285), Hưng Yên (276), Đà Nẵng (253), An Giang (232), Quảng Ninh (227), Bạc Liêu (225), Thái Nguyên (220), Hải Dương (203), Lâm Đồng (202), Bắc Giang (202), Cần Thơ (196), Trà Vinh (196), Quảng Nam (194), Hà Giang (179), Gia Lai (171), Phú Yên (166), Quảng Ngãi (157), Đắk Nông (152), Đồng Tháp (138), Vĩnh Phúc (137), Ninh Bình (134), Nam Định (134), Bình Thuận (119), Hòa Bình (107), Sóc Trăng (103), Kiên Giang (97), Nghệ An (94), Tiền Giang (85), Hà Nam (79), Thái Bình (78), Phú Thọ (75), Sơn La (68), Cao Bằng (66), Bình Dương (65), Lào Cai (65), Kon Tum (63), Điện Biên (62), Đồng Nai (51), Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu (42), Long An (41), Quảng Bình (40), Yên Bái (36), Hậu Giang (35), Ninh Thuận (33), Tuyên Quang (30), Hà Tĩnh (23) and Lai Châu (18). 

Việt Nam reported an additional 224 COVID-related deaths on Tuesday, bringing the death toll from the virus to 33,245.

A total of 16,277 patients were declared fully recovered from COVID-19, with the total number of recoveries increasing to 1,413,384.

As of January 4, Việt Nam had administered over 154.3 million doses of vaccine, including more than 69.6 million people receiving two full jabs, and over 6.8 million inoculated with a booster shot. —VNS
