HÀ NỘI — More than 250 major projects led by ministries, sectors, localities, and major corporations across 34 provinces and cities have met the criteria to be launched or inaugurated in celebration of the 80th anniversary of National Day.
According to a report from the Ministry of Construction, these projects represent a total investment of approximately VNĐ1.26 quadrillion (nearly US$48 billion), sourced from the State budget and other financing channels.
The groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies are scheduled for August 19, with the central event taking place at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in Đông Anh District, Hà Nội, and 80 satellite sites connected via live broadcast and on-site ceremonies
The programme will be aired live on Việt Nam Television as well as local radio and television stations.
The report was presented on Tuesday afternoon at a meeting of the Government’s Standing Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, to review preparations for the ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the National Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025).
Offering guidance on several key matters, the Prime Minister said that the upcoming events should serve as a catalyst for momentum, ambition, and a renewed spirit of dedication, helping to foster the drive and strength essential for national development.
He directed relevant agencies to continue reviewing, updating, and selecting truly outstanding projects, ensuring that all ceremonies are meaningful, efficient, impressive, dignified, inspiring, and cost-effective, while strictly adhering to regulatory standards. The PM Chính also underscored the importance of enhancing recognition and commendation activities throughout the occasion.
In addition, he called for intensified communication efforts before, during, and after the event, along with the implementation of comprehensive security and safety measures to ensure its smooth and successful execution.
Fostering deeper sense of patriotism
During the meeting, Chính also reflected on recent cultural and artistic events held to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.
He praised the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Public Security, Nhân Dân (People) newspaper, Việt Nam Television and many other ministries, agencies and units for seriously implementing the instructions of the Politburo, Party General Secretary Tô Lâm, the Central Steering Committee for major national anniversaries and the Government in organising outstanding cultural and artistic programmes to celebrate the historic milestones.
Expressing deep emotion at the sight of stands awash in the red of the national flag and tens of thousands of voices united in singing the national anthem Tiến Quân Ca (The Marching Song), Prime Minister Chính praised the programmes for their powerful impact. He noted that they had drawn hundreds of thousands of spectators, igniting a wave of patriotic fervour and a spirit of dedication across all segments of society.
He also commended the talent, creativity, public service ethos, and patriotism demonstrated by the artists, organisers, and production teams behind the events.
Earlier, on Sunday, Prime Minister Chính conducted an unannounced inspection of preparations for the series of major events, including the national achievement exhibition titled 80 Years on the Journey of Independence – Freedom – Happiness at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre.
He also visited and encouraged the production team and artists rehearsing for a grand music gala to be held at the venue, urging them to ensure safety, smooth traffic, and timely completion.
He took the opportunity to share his thoughts on the vital role of culture.
He said that culture is an internal source of strength and a spiritual foundation, one that is national in character, scientific in nature and for the people.
“As long as culture exists, the nation exists,” he said, recalling late President Hồ Chí Minh’s teaching that “Culture lights the way for the nation to move forward.”
From its inception, the Party has consistently valued culture and paid great attention to cultural development.
Translating the Party’s guidelines into practice, the Government in recent years has implemented a range of cultural initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting Việt Nam’s 4,000-year-old cultural heritage, developing cultural and entertainment industries, and enabling artists to dedicate themselves fully to their craft while earning a living from it.
The efforts, in line with the directives of Party General Secretary Tô Lâm, are designed to ensure that the people can enjoy ever greater access to the nation’s cultural treasures and the fruits of its development. — VNS
