HCM CITY — The historic Võ Nguyên Giáp Cave in the central province of Quảng Bình will start welcoming visitors in 2019.

The cave is located in Ngân Thủy Commune, Lệ Thủy District. It is named after General Võ Nguyên Giáp (1911-2013), Việt Nam’s legendary military leader.

From 1971 to 1973, General Võ Nguyên Giáp stayed in the cave and commanded military campaigns in southern Việt Nam.

The cave has a system of stalactites which look like gold since they contain a large quantity of silica. The cave contains many other stalactite systems and small lakes.

The cave is located 40 kilometres to the southwest of Đồng Hới town, the center of Quảng Bình Province. It can be visited as part of a day tour or a two-day, one-night tour.

Quảng Bình, often known as the kingdom of caves, is also home to the world’s largest cave, Sơn Đòong Cave.

The province welcomed 3.9 million visitors in the year to December 5, an increase of 18 percent over the same period last year. — VNS
