HCM CITY — Vietnamese-Australian pianist and composer Nguyễn Vân Anh will perform in a concert at the HCM City Opera House on Sunday to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Việt Nam and Australia.

Well-known as Van-Anh Nguyen, Anh will play Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov with the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera’s (HBSO) symphony orchestra.

Born in Sydney in 1987, Anh began studying piano at the age of 15 months with her parents, who are professional musicians.

By the age of four, she was accepted into the Young Artists Programme for gifted and talented musicians at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

She obtained her Associate Diploma in Music by the age of nine, and her Licentiate Diploma in Music at aged 12.

Since the age of five, she has given numerous media performances across all major Australian TV channels as well as on radio 2MBS-FM and the ABC.

​She has performed at prestigious venues, including the Sydney Opera House and City Recital Hall in Australia, Segerstrom Center of the Arts and Jones Hall in the US, and  toured in Italy, Germany, Austria, the US and Việt Nam.

She has released six albums, and is preparing for her new classical crossover album with Universal which is due for release in January 2019.

Anh has also appeared in famous fashion magazine like L’Officiel magazine, Elle Vietnam magazine and Harpers Bazaar magazine. She is a host of her own TV show on Discovery Channel Asia.

The concert, which also marks 24 years of HBSO’s first performance, will continue with Symphony in D Minor by the 19th-century Belgian composer César Franck.

It premiered at the Paris Conservatory in France on 17 February, 1889 under the direction of Jules Garcin.

Conductor Trần Vương Thạch, HBSO director, will lead the concert.
