HCM CITY – One hundred couples, those are workers in HCM City and neighbouring provinces with low incomes who could not afford a formal wedding, joined a group wedding ceremony in the city on National Day, September 2.
The wedding began at 8 am with a worship ceremony at the statue of President Hồ Chí Minh at the city Children’s Cultural House, before moving around downtown by electric bicycles.
The ceremony was held at 12 pm at Queen Plaza Kỳ Hòa Wedding & Event Centre in District 10, where the couples celebrated their happiness with their families and friends.
The couples received a wedding package that included áo dài (Vietnamese traditional dress), wedding rings, parties, make-up, flowers, cakes and photography services.
The organisers gifted 11 electric bicycles and 11 apartments totally worth VNĐ29.7 million ($1,274) each to 11 couples facing the greatest difficulties.
Couple Nguyễn Văn Toàn and Nguyễn Ngọc Kiều of Kiên Giang Province, said, “We are very happy at attending group wedding with several other couples. We receive good blessings from many people.”
The HCM City Youth Employee Assistance Centre has organised group weddings since 2007, aiming at helping young workers find happiness, promote savings and a healthy lifestyle.
A total of 822 couples have taken part in the group weddings for eight years. – VNS
