PHÚ YÊN — A rock formation made of stone has been discovered in the southern province of Phú Yên and is expected to be a new tourist draw in the locality.

The area covers 500sq metres, locating near the Gành Đá Đĩa, a national landscape site in An Ninh Đông Commune. It is formed by layers of hexagonal, square and round stones. The larger stones have vertical cracks due to the influence of nature over the years.

Trình Trọng Đạo, a worker at the site said the area had previously been covered with bushes and mud, therefore no one knew what was underneath yet when the mud was removed, the stones were uncovered.

Hồ Văn Tiến, director of Phú Yên’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said the department was given permission to work with scientists to uncover the mud layer above the stone. After that, the department will work out a plan to preserve and develop the area into a tourism site.

Tiến said the research process will be done carefully so that it won’t affect the stone.

Gành Đá Đĩa was recognised as a national landscape site in 1998 and has become a top tourist draw in Phú Yên. — VNS
