SA PA — Boasting unparalleled 360-degree views of untouched mountains and terraced rice field valleys, Topas Ecolodge has been selected for the US National Geographic Traveller Mountains and Lakes Collection for the second time, the only destination in Việt Nam to receive this honour.
The accolade comes after the ecolodge was recently being named by Travel + Leisure in the Top 10 Best Upcountry Hotels in Việt Nam in 2026.
The biennial National Geographic Traveller Mountains and Lakes Collection is renowned for showcasing the world's most remarkable mountain and lakeside escapes. By securing its place on this list once again, Topas Ecolodge reaffirms Sapa’s position as a premier global destination for mountain hospitality.
Set across two hilltops, the lodge is a collection of 50 rustic stone bungalows and villas. Each bungalow is meticulously crafted from local granite, blending the rustic soul of Vietnamese stilt houses with the clean lines of Scandinavian design. Private terraces provide a peaceful space to absorb the surrounding landscape, while two saltwater infinity pools offer a quiet vantage point over the valleys below.
The spirit of wellness
National Geographic highlights the deep cultural connection found within the lodge’s wellness offerings, writing: “Wellness is central to the experience. The Rice Spa blends ancient healing traditions with modern techniques, offering treatments inspired by local culture and natural ingredients.”

Beyond the quietude, the lodge serves as a bridge to the ancient cultures of the north.
From guided treks through hidden ethnic villages and rice terraces to mountain biking across deep valleys, the land is your playground. As the home of the Việt Nam Mountain Marathon, Topas Ecolodge also provides high-quality running guides for those wishing to find their rhythm on the trails.
Within the lodge itself, guests are invited to engage in the heritage of the mountains through a curated range of complimentary cultural activities and workshops.
True to the National Geographic spirit, the article emphasises the lodge’s pioneering role in sustainability, writing: “Sustainability plays a major role in the lodge’s philosophy of responsible luxury. Environmental initiatives include eco-heated pools, a constructed wetland system for wastewater filtration and a commitment to reducing single-use plastics.”
More than just environmental stewardship, Topas Ecolodge remains deeply woven into the local social fabric, employing staff from surrounding villages and fostering economic growth within the mountain communities. — VNS
