HÀ NỘI –Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has called for more efforts to develop Việt Nam's key economic regions as their growth is crucial to the country’s success.
Speaking at a meeting with relevant ministries and sectors held on July 26 to discuss boosting the regions’ growth, PM Phúc noted that they were facing numerous challenges related to climate change, regional planning, connectivity and co-ordination mechanisms.
He emphasised the importance of speeding up the disbursement of investment funds, solving difficulties in production, attracting more investment and expanding the application of advanced technology in production and business.
The Government leader requested localities take measures to ensure the success of infrastructure projects that have been the subject of public concern, particularly in the electricity sector, and speed up the construction of transport infrastructure.
Ministries, sectors and localities were asked to ensure there is adequate power supply for production and business, and key economic regions were instructed to take the lead in saying no to disposable plastic products.
According to a report by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in the 2011-2017 period, the average gross regional domestic product of the key northern, central, southern and Mekong Delta regions increased by 7.14 per cent per year, mainly driven by growth in processing and manufacturing. – VNS
