HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Science and Technology on Friday launched a national information system on science, technology and innovation.

The system is designed to provide a unified and interconnected source of data on science and technology organisations, researchers, research projects, scientific publications, research results and related resources.

Trần Đắc Hiến, director general of the ministry's National Agency for Science and Technology Information and Statistics, said the system would provide Government agencies with a broader data base for policy planning, implementation and evaluation.

For researchers, the system is intended to improve access to information, research resources and collaboration opportunities, while businesses can use it to identify technologies, experts and research results relevant to their production and commercial needs, Hiến said.

The system, available through sti.gov.vn, is among shared digital platforms being developed under the Prime Minister decision.

It integrates and shares data covering science and technology activities, intellectual property, standards and quality, high technology, science and technology enterprises, innovative start-ups and technology transfer.

The system also includes a statistical platform containing 137 sector-specific indicators and 17 national statistical indicators for science and technology, providing data for monitoring, analysis and policy development.

A key feature of the system is its ability to link data across science and technology organisations, researchers, projects and scientific publications, while automatically connecting and synchronising with the ministry's administrative procedure system and digital platform for managing science and technology projects.

The system has been connected to the National Data Centre and supports single sign-on through VNeID digital identity platform. It is also designed to connect and share real-time data with the national population database, the ministry said.

On his speech at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Lê Xuân Định said the launch was only the beginning, arguing that the system's value would depend less on its software than on data quality, connectivity and how effectively the information was used.

Định called on relevant agencies to improve data quality, strengthen interoperability and data sharing and shift the focus from managing data to extracting greater value from it.

The ministry expects the system to strengthen the country's science and technology data infrastructure, help connect research results and new technologies with businesses and the public, and support the commercialisation of research and national digital transformation. — VNS
