HÀ NỘI — The morning skies over Việt Nam shimmered with new beginnings as Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA), a member of Sun Group, officially launched commercial operations on November 1 with its inaugural flights to the Pearl Island of Phú Quốc, marking the debut of the country’s first leisure airline.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways welcomes first passengers

At 7.15am, flight 9G1203 departed from Nội Bài Airport carrying 220 passengers aboard an Airbus A321 bound for Phú Quốc. Shortly after, flights 9G1969 (8.50am–9.50am) from HCM City and 9G2969 (08.35am–10.20am) from Đà Nẵng followed — each symbolising Sun Group’s strategic commitment to develop Phú Quốc into a world-class destination and emerging regional aviation hub.

Among them, the Đà Nẵng–Phú Quốc flight was a special celebratory service marking the airline’s official launch. The route will operate regularly from March 2026. Meanwhile, three domestic routes — Phú Quốc–Hà Nội, Phú Quốc–HCM City, and Hà Nội–HCM City — will be launched on a regular basis from November 1.

The flight crew warmly welcomed the first little passengers on board

“Today marks a truly special milestone for both Sun Group and Sun PhuQuoc Airways. This is not only the beginning of a new airline but also the start of a new approach — where aviation and tourism go hand in hand to deliver distinctive travel experiences,” said CEO of Sun PhuQuoc Airways Nguyễn Mạnh Quân.

Passengers were served a special pastry from Maison Kayser

On its inaugural day, every boarding pass bore the inscription 'First Flight – 1.11.2025,' while each passenger seat featured a bespoke souvenir set with the airline’s signature Sun symbol — a gesture of appreciation to commemorate the milestone. Passengers were also treated to a pastry from Eric Kayser, the renowned French bakery brand with nearly 30 years of global heritage.

Travellers on the first Hà Nội–Phú Quốc flight enjoyed a live violin performance high above the clouds, creating a serene atmosphere and leaving a lasting impression of this remarkable journey.

S.P.A Magazine

To celebrate the debut, two bilingual publications were introduced onboard — S.P.A Magazine and S.P.A Visit Phú Quốc. The former caters to readers passionate about travel and culture, while the latter serves as a detailed guide to the island’s attractions, dining, and entertainment, offering a complete journey of discovery on one of the world’s most beautiful islands.

Passenger Minh Anh from Hà Nội shared her excitement.

“I booked my ticket as soon as the airline opened sales to experience the very first flight. The service feels polished and friendly. It’s truly a memorable journey, and I believe this airline will soon become a familiar choice for many travellers,” she said.

The first passengers have landed at Phu Quoc International Airport

The first flights touched down at Phú Quốc International Airport under a water cannon salute, where passengers were warmly greeted by airline representatives and gifted a pilot-themed 'Sunny' plush mascot symbolising joy and good fortune. Outside, colourfully decorated shuttle buses awaited to take guests to premium resorts and vibrant attractions at Sunset Town, where a grand ceremony later unveiled new highlights, including the Tramonto zone of La Festa Phú Quốc, Curio Collection by Hilton; the Sunset Bazaar; Vietnam’s first Eric Kayser bakery; Kiss Square; the YumYum and Beer King minishows; and a new edition of Symphony of the Sea, a spectacular light, fireworks, and water show.

SPA contributes to meeting the rising travel and tourism demand during Phu Quoc’s golden season

The successful launch not only marks the arrival of a new airline brand but also introduces an affordable travel option connecting Phú Quốc with Việt Nam’s major cities. The milestone comes as travel demand surges ahead of the peak tourism season and the 2026 Lunar New Year. From early 2026, SPA plans to expand its network with regular Đà Nẵng–Phú Quốc and Nha Trang–Phú Quốc routes, followed by direct international flights from Phú Quốc to South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and India.

The launch coincides with Phú Quốc’s transition into a special administrative zone under An Giang Province and its preparations to host the 2027 APEC Summit, expected to welcome 10,000–12,000 delegates, including heads of state from 21 member economies. The presence of a modern, well-planned Vietnamese airline such as Sun PhuQuoc Airways will enhance air connectivity, boost tourism infrastructure, and strengthen Việt Nam’s broader economic ambitions.
