HCM CITY — Mobile service provider Vietnamobile has upgraded its Thánh SIM plan into a super low-cost plan called "Siêu Thánh SIM” with effect from May.

For VNĐ40,000 (US$1.75) per month existing subscribers will get customers 4GB of 4G data per day, free messages and calls within the network and external calls at a lower rate of VNĐ550 per minute, down from the earlier VNĐ680.

New subscribers have to buy a sim card for VNĐ60,000 ($2.62).

Existing customers can press *989# and wait for a confirmation message from the operator to complete the upgrade.

“Siêu Thánh SIM could meet a great demand among Vietnamese for free calls and messaging services," said Elizabete Fong, general director of Vietnamobile.

Vietnamobile is the only telecom company in the country in which a foreign firm, the Hong Kong-based Hutchison Telecommunication, has a stake. It is a joint venture with Hà Nội Telecom.

The firm’s 3G network covers all 63 provinces, while its 4G services are available in 10 cities and provinces: Hà Nội, Thái Nguyên, Bắc Ninh, Bắc Giang, Hải Dương, Hải Phòng, Nam Định, Thái Bình, Nghệ An, and Thanh Hóa. — VNS
