CẦN THƠ  – The Mini Thailand Week 2017 opened in Cần Thơ city yesterday, allowing people in the southwestern region to try Thai businesses’ products and services.

The week, part of activities to boost relations and trade between Việt Nam and Thailand, is organised by the Thai Ministry of Commerce’s Department of International Trade Promotion and the trade office of Thailand in HCM City.

Its key event is an exhibition featuring 120 booths from 83 Thai companies that display various products such as agricultural tools, food and beverages, health and beauty care products, household appliances, leather goods and jewellery.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Consul General of Thailand in HCM City Ureerat Ratanaprukse said as of July 2017, Thailand’s investment in the Mekong Delta region was US$400 million across 88 projects.

She expressed hope that the Mini Thailand Week will bolster the two countries’ economic ties, provide visitors with Thai products at reasonable prices and create partnership opportunities for Thai and Vietnamese firms.

Director of the Cần Thơ municipal Department of Industry and Trade Nguyễn Minh Toại said the city is home to five Thai-invested projects with total registered capital of nearly $42 million, mostly in aquatic and agricultural products processing and carton package production.
