HÀ NỘI — Asia’s second-tier club football tournament AFC Cup 2020 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced in a statement on Thursday.

The AFC Cup had been suspended earlier in March due to the coronavirus outbreak and was set to resume this month.

The AFC Champions League, which was also suspended in March, will resume in Qatar on Monday.

Two Vietnamese sides were still in the AFC Cup, namely HCM City FC and Quảng Ninh Coal.

The AFC Futsal Championship has been pushed back by a month to December, while the AFC Solidarity Cup and AFC Futsal Club Championship UAE 2020 have also been cancelled.

Other tournaments have been pushed back to next year, including the remaining matches of the 2022 World Cup qualifying round in Asia, the 2020 AFC U16 Championship and the 2020 AFC U19 Championship. — VNS
