QUẢNG NAM — Beach volleyball teams will compete in the international women’s beach volleyball open tour on the pristine beach of Hạ Thanh village of Tam Kỳ City’s Tam Thanh commune on June 14-17.
Vice chairman of the city, Nguyễn Minh Nam, said 14 teams from Hải Phòng, Khánh Hòa, HCM City, Đà Nẵng, Cần Thơ, Tam Kỳ and two teams from Singapore and Thailand will take part in the tournament for total a cash prize of VNĐ100 million (US$4,300).
Teams will join a round-robin in four groups with the top team qualifying for the quarter-final. Eight teams ranking second and third place in the groups will play a knock-out round for four berths in the quarter-final.
The final match will be played on June 17.
The tournament’s organisers will also present awards for the best team; the best umpire and Miss Beach Volleyball.
The event is part of series of cultural activities to boost summer tourism in the beach commune – 10km from Tam Kỳ city in Quảng Nam Province.
Local residents will join a coracle paddling race; cuisine competition and photo and painting exhibition at Tam Thanh beach square on June 14-18.
Tam Thanh Commune is known as the first locale in Việt Nam to have colourful murals painted on its moss-covered walls by artists from several foreign countries.
The commune also debuted the first ever coracle painting road – displaying more than 100 coracles with ocean lifestyle paintings along 2km coast line – during the summer festival. — VNS
