Bình Điền Long An beat Thailand in int’l volleyball event

HÀ NỘI — VTV Bình Điền Long An defeated U23 Thailand in the second match of Group A at the VTV9-Bình Điền International Women's Volleyball Tournament in Kiên Giang Province's Rạch Giá City on Monday.

19-year-old Nguyễn Bích Tuyền from Vĩnh Long Province scored two decisive points to help Long An beat Thailand 3-2.

Bình Điền Long An had a good start to beat the Thai team 25-15 in the first set. However, Thailand fought back strongly to win 25-23, 25-20 in the next two sets.

With good performances by Nguyễn Thị Thanh Thúy, Dương Thị Hên and Đặng Kim Thanh, Bình Điền Long An beat Thailand 25-19 in the fourth set.

In the decisive set, Tuyền helped her team win 16-14.

In another match of Group A, Vietinbank defeated Nanjing University of China 3-0.

After two games, Bình Điền Long An top the group with five points, followed by Vietinbank with four points, Thailand with two points and then Nanjing with no points.

The event attracted the participation of eight teams including four teams from the US, China and Thailand, competing in a round-robin format in the qualifying round.

The winner will receive a prize of US$15,000. — VNS
