HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese athletes have won a silver and a bronze medal at the fifth leg of the World Para Swimming World Series which closed in Singapore.
Asian champion Võ Thanh Tùng on Sunday pocketed a silver in the men’s S1-5 50m backstroke event with a time of 39.76sec.
Cameron Leslie of New Zealand topped the podium while the bronze went to Russian swimmer Roman Zhdanov.
Tùng’s teammate Hà Văn Hiệp finished third in the men’s S4 50m breaststroke in 1:16.14.
He was behind Zhdanov and Giseong Jo of South Korea.
Việt Nam sent seven swimmers to the three-day competition which lured more than 160 athletes from 26 countries. It was also a qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
Singapore was the only Asian nation to host the prestigious event this year, holding the fifth leg of the series.
The next leg will be in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy, from 30 May 30 to June 2. The final leg will be in Berlin, Germany, from June 6 to 9. —AFP
