HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam was ousted from the men’s singles second round of the Open International Villa de Madrid in Spain on Saturday.

Nam, world No 414 lost to Jeroen Vanneste of Belgium, world No 655, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6. Although Nam’s ranking is higher than Vanneste, Nam struggled playing on clay, a surface he doesn’t favour.

Earlier, the southern province of Tây Ninh–born player beat Ryan James Storrie of England 7-5, 7-5 in the first match. Following this event, Nam will stay in Spain for training to improve his world rankings. He will compete in several tournaments to hone his skills and gain points. — VNS
