North Korea defeated Shanghai 3-0 in Group B of the LienVietPostBank International Women’s Volleyball Tournament in the northern province of Bắc Ninh on Monday.

HÀ NỘI — North Korea defeated Shanghai 3-0 in Group B of the LienVietPostBank International Women’s Volleyball Tournament in the northern province of Bắc Ninh on Monday.

With this win, North Korea earned a spot in the event’s semi-finals.

North Korea beat Long An in the first match.

North Korea dominated the game from the opening whistle and took a 25-13 lead in the first set.

The second set saw the skill and spirit of North Korean captain Jong Jin-sim. She repeatedly scored to help her team win 25-11.

Shanghai fought back strongly in the last set but could not beat their rival.

In another match, Kinh Bắc – Bắc Ninh lost to Long An 24-26, 17-25, 23-25.

Following the result, Kinh Bắc – Bắc Ninh’s chance of entering the next round is slim. They must to take on North Korea in the last match, while Long An only need a win against Shanghai to book a ticket to the next round.

The event attracted the participation of eight teams including four foreign teams, competing in two groups in a round robin format. The best four will advance to the next round.

The winners will walk away with US$15,000. There will be seven awards given to the best individual players. — VNS
