HÀ NỘI — The ASEAN Football Federation Championship organisers have named four Vietnamese players in the Best XI of the tournament.

Việt Nam were crowned regional champions on December 15 in Hà Nội after beating Malaysia 3-2 on aggregate in the final.

Đặng Văn Lâm who kept a sheet clean in all four group stage matches and conceded only four goals overall was picked as the team’s goalkeeper.

Trần Đình Trọng who played the final with a leg injury, was one of the team’s central defenders, thanks to his key role in Viet Nam’s solid defence.

The left back position went to Đoàn Văn Hậu, who bombed up and down the flank tirelessly throughout the tournament.

The AFF Cup’s most valuable player Nguyễn Quang Hải was an easy choice for the central midfielder spot.

Runners-up Malaysia also contributed four players, while Thailand, the Philippines and Myanmar had one each.

At the same time, Fox Sports Asia revealed the results of their Fans’ Choice Best XI in which there were eight Vietnamese. Apart from Hải, Lâm and Hậu like the AFF Cup’s list, there were also right winger Nguyễn Công Phượng, left winger Phan Văn Đức, striker Nguyễn Anh Đức, centre back Quế Ngọc Hải and right back Nguyễn Trọng Hoàng.
