Hải Dương and Hồ Chí Minh City players progress in table tennis tournament

The men’s table tennis team of Hải Dương and the women’s team of Hồ Chí Minh City progressed into the semi-finals of the ongoing national Table Tennis Masters tournament 2018 in matches held late Wednesday in Northern Hải Dương Province.

HÀ NỘI — The men’s table tennis team of Hải Dương and the women’s team of HCM City progressed into the semi-finals of the ongoing national Table Tennis Masters tournament 2018 in matches held late Wednesday in northern Hải Dương Province.

In order to create more opportunities for young players, this year’s tournament increased its fields from 16 to 20 players in each men’s and women’s category. Each category is divided into two groups.

The winners of each group qualify for the semi-finals.

The nation’s top two players Nguyễn Anh Tú from Hà Nội and Mai Hoàng Mỹ Trang from HCM City both were absent from the tournament with hand injuries.

On the men’s side, hosts Hải Dương are at an advantage with three of their players topping the two groups.

In Group A, Vũ Quang Hiền won six matches. Top players Nguyễn Đức Tuân and Đoàn Bá Tuấn Anh won five matches and lost one.

In the women’s team Group A, top players Nguyễn Thị Nga from Hà Nội has six wins and two loses to Phạm Dạ Thảo and Đinh Thị Huệ from Hải Dương, while Phan Hoàng Tường Giang from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has six wins.

In Group B, Nguyễn Khoa Diệu Khánh from HCM City leads with six wins and one loss, followed by Phạm Thị Thiên Kim of MPS, Bùi Ngọc Lan from Hải Dương, Nguyễn Thị Phương Linh from T&T Hà Nội and Đinh Thị Hằng from Hải Dương. — VNS
