HÀ NỘI — Thanh Hóa set a new record at the National Sports Games on Thursday in Hà Nội.

They won the mixed 4x400m relay event in a time of 3min 23.06sec, smashing the previous mark set by HCM City in 2014 by 13 seconds.

Hà Nội came second, followed by Hà Tĩnh.

Phan Thanh Bình of HCM City set a Games record of 47.31m in the men’s discus event, breaking the eight-year record of 46.02m held by Nguyễn Khắc Huy of Đà Nẵng.

Khuất Phương Anh of the hosts defeated SEA Games winner Vũ Thị Ly of Ninh Bình in the women’s 800m event.

Anh ran 2:05.89 to set a new Games record.

Ly finished 2 seconds later to claim silver.

Lê Thị Lài from Sóc Trăng won the women’s discus event with a throw of 44.92m, setting a new Games record.

Other gold medallists included Nguyễn Văn Lai in the men’s 10,000m after he secured gold in the 5,000m event on Tuesday.

Vũ Thị Mến of Nam Định won the women’s triple jump; Quách Thị Lan triumphed in the women’s 400m and Phan Khắc Hoàng topped the men’s 400m hurdles.

In shooting, Hà Nội’s women set a new target in the 10m standard air rifle category with a score of 1,568 points. They beat their own old record of 1,029 points set at the previous Games four years ago.

The gymnasts started their tournament yesterday at the Quần Ngựa Sports Palace.

World Cup winner Lê Thanh Tùng of HCM City had no difficulty in winning the men’s all-round event with 82.350 points.

Tùng then took the second gold in the team event.

“I am happy with these medals. It will push me to work harder to prepare for the next events, including the 2019 SEA Games,” said Tùng.

The women’s team gold went to Hà Nội while the women’s individual title belonged to Nguyễn Tienna Katelyn of Hải Phòng. — VNS
