Track-and-field athletes set records at National Games

HÀ NỘI — Phạm Thị Huệ of Quảng Ninh won gold and set a record at the National Sports Games in the women’s 10,000m event on Wednesday in Hà Nội.

Huệ finished with a time of 35min 10.17sec, setting a new Games record. The old record of 36:24.25 had belonged to Bùi Thị Hiền of Thái Bình since 2010.

Phạm Thị Hồng Lệ of Nam Định came second and Lò Thị Thanh of Bình Định was third.

Tăng Văn Hải of Vĩnh Long also won and set a new mark in the men’s hammer throw with a result of 53.97m. The 28-year-old threw more than four metres better than the old record of 49.63m, set by Trần Hoàng Thiện of Vĩnh Long in 2010.

Đỗ Tấn Trưởng and Nguyễn Thanh Tùng both of Đà Nẵng came second and third, respectively.

The women’s quartet of HCM City also set a record in the 4x100m event, finishing in 45.28sec.

Hà Nội and the Military were behind.

The fourth Games records went to SEA Games winner Nguyễn Thị Oanh from Bắc Giang. Oanh ran 1,500m in a time of 4min 14.67sec.

Other athletes who won yesterday were Dương Văn Thái of Nam Định in the men’s 1,500m and the Ministry of Public Security men’s 4x100m team.

In pencak silat, Hà Nội martial artists topped the ranking with six gold medals from both combat and performance events. Thanh Hóa were second with four golds and Quảng Ninh finished third with two.

In tennis, HCM City grabbed their only title in the mixed doubles event after Đỗ Minh Quân and Đào Minh Trang beat Huỳnh Chí Khương and Savanna Lý Nguyễn of the Military 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.

The men’s doubles gold went to Lý Hoàng Nam and Trịnh Linh Giang of Bình Dương who beat teammates Nguyễn Văn Phương and Từ Lê Khánh Duy 6-0, 6-3.

Đà Nẵng’s Fodor Csilla and Phan Thị Thanh Bình overcame Nguyễn Từ Kim Ngân and Nguyễn Thị Bé Xuyên of the Military 7-5, 6-1 to win the women’s doubles.

The singles finals will be held on Thursday at the Athletics Palace.

Bình will meet Csilla in the women’s singles and number one seed Nam will face number two Giang on the men’s side. Matches are aired live on Thể thao TV channel and the VTVcab ON app. — VNS
