HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s Sanest Khánh Hòa ranked fourth in the 2018 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship after losing to Pakistan’s WAPDA team in the bronze-medal match in Myanmar on August 6.

The game was held at the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium.

The Pakistani side beat Sanest Khánh Hòa in an intensely fought 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-20, 18-16) victory.

The Vietnamese side and WAPDA entered the competition court with similar 4-1 records. Each side’s only loss came in Sunday’s semi-finals, with the Vietnamese team falling in straight sets to Iran’s Khatam Ardakan and the Pakistani side narrowly edged out in exhausting five sets by Kazakhstan’s Atyrau.

With this result, WAPDA made history by claiming third place at the Asian event for the first time, while Sanest Khánh Hòa also made history for Việt Nam as the first team from the country to reach the semi-finals of the top-tier championship.

Khatam Ardakan of Iran reigned supreme over the tournament after a 3-0 (29-27, 25-23, 25-22) blitz to defeat Atyrau of Kazakhstan in the final showdown. — VNS
