HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese chess player Lê Quang Liêm will compete in the 25th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival in United Arab Emirates today.
With the Elo rating of 2,727, the 27-year-old is the No 1 seed at the tournament of about 150 players.
Besides Liêm, the event features many players with Elo ratings north of 2,700, including Richard Rapport of Hungary (Elo 2,718), Ivan Cheparinov of Georgia (Elo 2,717), Wang Hao of Chia (Elo 2,711) and Vladimir Fedoseev of Russia (Elo 2,706).
Notably, young Vietnamese talent Nguyễn Anh Khôi with Elo 2,453 also takes part in this event. Khôi, 16, is national chess defending champion.
HCM City-born Liêm finished second at the ninth Danzhou Super Grandmaster Tournament in Hainan Province, China last Friday.
The event is a nine-round Swiss open restricted to players with a FIDE rating of 2,100 and above.
The winner will receive US$13,000. The time control is 90 minutes for the entire game plus a 30-second increment starting from move one.
