HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam Television (VTV) announced yesterday its failure to purchase the copyright to broadcast the Asian Games (Asiad) 2018.

VTV could not afford to buy the copyright due to the high price offered by its partner, KJSMWORLD Corp, which is based in South Korea.

“VTV discussed buying a non-exclusive pack to broadcast the Asiad for free, but the partners only wanted to offer the exclusive pack at a high price,” said a representative of VTV.

However, VTV will send a group of nine reporters and editors to Indonesia to bring news and images of highlighted athletes to fans and audiences.

Asiad is held every four years, from August 18 to September 2 in Indonesia, attracting 10,000 athletes from 45 countries and territories.

It includes 40 athletic categories, plus extra events like martial arts. Athletes will complete for 462 sets of medals.

Việt Nam aims to win two to three gold medals in Asiad, especially in categories like wushu, shooting, and weightlifting. — VNS
