Việt Nam’s top male tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam secured two wins in the qualifying round of the ongoing ATP Challenger in Segovia, Spain on Sunday.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s top male tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam secured two wins in the qualifying round of the ongoing ATP Challenger in Segovia, Spain on Sunday.

Nam, world No 568, defeated Pablo Vivero Gonzalez of Spain, world No 403, 6-4, 6-3 after 67 minutes. Nam then bested Federico Zeballos of Bolivia, world No 585, 6-0 and 7-5 after 72 minutes.

Nam will next face Sadio Doumbia of France, world No 442.

The event, which attracted many players in the world’s top 200, will run until Sunday.

It has total prize money of US$85,000.

The tournament is part of Nam’s one-year training camp in Spain to improve his ranking.

The expenditure for the training is about US$250,000 and is paid by his club Becamex Bình Dương.

During his time in Spain, Nam, 21, will compete in several tournaments to hone his skills and gain points. — VNS
