Vietnamese shooters are aiming for gold medals at the upcoming Asian Games (ASIAD 2018) in Indonesia.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese shooters are aiming for gold medals at the upcoming Asian Games (ASIAD 2018) in Indonesia.

Team sponsors have promised cash awards amounting to more than VNĐ2.1 billion (US$90,600) for a gold medal, according to the Việt Nam Shooting Federation, with VNĐ660 million for a silver, and VNĐ376 million for a bronze.  

Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Việt Nam Shooting Federation Nguyễn Thị Nhung said to prepare for the Games, the team has been training and taking part in tournaments since the beginning of this year.

The Vietnamese team has 18 athletes who will compete in the men’s and women’s pistol and rifle, and the men’s skeet and trap events. They will leave for training in South Korea before travelling to Indonesia for the ASIAD.

Việt Nam’s highest ever shooting achievement was a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic in Brazil won by Hoàng Xuân Vinh in the men’s 10m air pistol. — VNS
