HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s national women’s football team left for Japan yesterday to train in preparation for the upcoming 2018 Asian Games (ASIAD 2018).

The team will train in Mimasaka city from August 1-11.

Japanese Ambassador to Việt Nam Umeda Kunio held a ceremony in Hà Nội for the team before they left.

The event was held on the occasion of the visit to Việt Nam by Mimasaka Mayor Hagiwara Seiji and aimed to boost football exchanges between Japan and Việt Nam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Kunio said the event was one of more than 100 activities held in 2018 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties. The Japanese government wanted to intensify bilateral cooperation in football, he said, hoping that all players on the national team would achieve their target of winning a ticket to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Lê Thị Hoàng Yến, deputy head of the Sports Administration under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said Japan had supported Việt Nam through the “Sports for Tomorrow” programme to look towards the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.
