HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam lost to Kazakhstan 1-3 in the last qualifying round of the LienVietPostBank International Men’s Volleyball Tournament on May 29.

The game was held in Hà Nam gymnasium in the northern province of Hà Nam.

Việt Nam won the first set 25-19 by playing flexibly. But Kazakhstan fought back strongly in the second set. With the advantage of height and physical strength, they won 25-19.

Vietnamese head coach Phùng Công Hưng changed his tactics and players to regain control of the game. However, the defence line made errors, causing Kazakhstan to win the third set 25-20.

In the decisive set, Kazakhstan scored points continuously to beat Việt Nam 25-19.

With this loss, Việt Nam will face arch rival Thailand in the semi-final, while Indonesia will meet Kazakhstan in the other semi-final match.

Six teams, including Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand, are competing for a total cash prize of US$40,000. The champions will be awarded $15,000.

The tournament will conclude on May 31. — VNS
