HÀ NỘI — Bùi Thị Thu Thảo of Hà Nội brought home a gold medal in the women’s long jump category of the National Athletics Championships in HCM City on Thursday.
Thảo took the lead with 6.30m. Nguyễn Thị Trúc Mai of Vĩnh Long took a silver medal with 6.02m, while Vũ Thị Mộng Mơ of Hải Phòng won bronze with 5.82m.
At the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia in August, Thảo took a gold with 6.68m. At the Games two years ago, she won a silver with 6.65m.
She won a gold at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, in July with 6.54m. At the Asian Grand Prix in May, Thảo bagged two gold medals with her marks of 6.41m and 6.58m.
In the women’s hammer throw, Phạm Thị Thanh Trúc of Vĩnh Long won a gold with 51.27m, breaking her own national record of 49.79m set in the same event in 2014.
Trúc’s teammate, Bùi Lưu Phương Ngân took a silver with 47.21m and Thạch Thị Mây of Trà Vinh seized a bronze with 46.61m.
On the men’s side, Đỗ Tấn Trưởng of Đà Nẵng won a gold medal with 54.24m. With this result, he broke the old record of 51.94m set by Tăng Văn Hải of Vĩnh Long last year.
Hải was the runner-up in this year’s event with 52.39m, followed by Trần Hoàng Thiện of Cần Thơ with 48.18m.
In the women’s 4x100m relay category, HCM City ranked first with 45.15sec. Hà Nội and Nam Định were second and third.
On the men’s side, the People’s Police took a gold medal with 40.67m, followed by the Military team and Bình Dương.
In the men’s triple jump, Hanoian Nguyễn Văn Hùng beat Nguyễn Tiến Trọng and Trần Văn Diện of the Military team to win gold with 16.24m.
In the women’s high jump, Dương Thị Việt Anh of Bạc Liêu triumphed with 1.81m. Phạm Thị Diễm of Hậu Giang and Nguyễn Lan Anh of Cần Thơ were the runners-up with 1.74m and 1.68m, respectively.
At the SEA Games in Malaysia, Anh was awarded the gold with 1.83m.
In the women’s 400m division, Nguyễn Thị Huyền of Nam Định won a gold after clocking a time of 53.02sec. Nguyễn Thị Hằng of Hà Nội and Hoàng Thị Ngọc of Quảng Bình won silver and bronze.
Earlier, defending Asian champion Huyền won the women’s 400m hurdle event. The 24-year-old also won the 400m hurdles and 400m before claiming a third gold in the 4x400m relay at the regional event in Malaysia.
On the men’s side, veteran Quách Công Lịch of Thanh Hóa proved himself with a gold medal at 46.51sec, followed by Lịch by Trần Đình Sơn of Hà Tĩnh and Phan Khắc Hoàng of Hà Nội with a time of 47.29sec and 47.99sec, respectively.
