HÀ NỘI — The National Vovinam (traditional Vietnamese martial arts) Championships opened in the southern province of Bình Dương on October 25.
The event attracted the participation of 380 martial artists, including 137 female players from 31 teams from across the country, such as Hà Nội, HCM City, Cần Thơ, An Giang and Bến Tre.
They will compete for 48 sets of medals in combat and performance.
The event will give participants a chance to hone their skills and exchange experiences. It also aims to develop Vietnamese traditional martial arts across the country.
The championship is co-organised by the National Sports Administration, the Việt Nam Vovinam Federation and the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
At present, vovinam is played in more than 60 countries. Vovinam is practiced with and without weapons, and requires training of the body and the mind. It uses the force and reactions of the opponent. — VNS
