HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese top player Lý Hoàng Nam entered the simi-finals of the singles of the Japan F3 Men’s Futures tennis tournament in Kofu City yesterday.
Nam, world No 630, defeated No 6 seed Gao Xin, world No 489, 6-3, 6-1 in the quarter-finals after more than one hour.
Nam will meet No 3 seed Niki Takuto, world No 354, in the next round.
Having reached the tournament’s semi-final, Nam will add six points to his Association of Tennis Professionals ranking.
In other news, No 16 seed Nguyễn Văn Phương of Việt Nam beat No 4 Theertha Shashank Macherla of India 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 in the third of the Kuala Lumpur ITF International Junior Championship’s boys singles U18 G5 event. — VNS
