HÀ NỘI — Lộc Thị Đào on Friday won a gold medal for Việt Nam at the Asian Archery Cup which is ongoing in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Vietnamese athlete defeated Olympic bronze medallist Lin Shih-chia of Chinese Taipei 6-5 in the women’s recurve individual category.
Đào and Lin tied 5-5 in the final necessitating a play-off to decide the winner. Đào performed better and was able to take the title.
Shamoli Ray of Bangladesh secured a bronze.
Đào earned her berth in the final after beating Filipino Nicole Marie Tagle 7-3 in the semi-finals. She earlier defeated rivals from India, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
It is the only medal Việt Nam has managed to grab at the event, which is a qualifier for the 2017 World Games.
The team events will take place on Saturday.
The World Games, a multi-sport event, is scheduled to take place in Wroclaw, Poland from July 20-30, with 27 official sports and four invitational sports featured in the Games. — VNS
