HÀ NỘI — No 4 seed pair Lý Hoàng Nam and Sun Fajing lost 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-10 to wildcard holders Bai Yan and Cai Zhao in a surprising defeat at the ongoing China F3 Men’s Futures tennis tournament’s first round in Anning City.

It was an unexpected loss for the seeded duo as they entered the semi-final round at the F1 tournament two weeks ago.

The loss means that Vietnamese Nam was out of the tournament as he was disqualified in the singles category on Monday.

The tournament will continue until Sunday, with US$15,000 up for grabs.

Nam received good news on Monday, as he jumped 33 spots in the world doubles rankings to No 588, but he suffered a drop of eight places in the singles to No 639. — VNS
