HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Hoàng Yến made a hattrick at the National Chinese Chess Championships which closed in Cần Thơ City on May 26.
Yến won her third gold in the women’s standard event, after beating Bùi Châu Ý Nhi in the eighth round, ignoring the result of the last round later of the day.
The HCM City champion earlier won the blitz and rapid categories, which were put in the national tournament for the first time.
Her result was also a record: it was the first time a master pocketed all three titles at the same event.
In the men’s event, Lại Lý Huynh of Bình Dương topped the standard event, one round earlier than scheduled. Huynh won his title back, after losing last year to Trềnh A Sáng of HCM City. It was Huynh’s second gold, after his title in the rapid event.
HCM City topped the championship, with four golds. And Bình Dương bagged another two medals, to win second place. — VNS
