HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thị Thanh Trúc advanced to the semi-final round of the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur World Championship in Sweden on Tuesday.
Trúc defeated Russian rival Galina Popova 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the women’s 48kg category.
The Vietnamese boxer worked her deep kicks well to land a few good shots to the face in spite of a barrage of swift punches from Popova. Both women went to the edge in the third round and were on the canvas when the final bell went, with Trúc taking the game on points.
Trúc is the fifth Vietnamese to enter the last-four round at the world event.
In today’s action, Trần Lê Duy Nhất will compete against Jaffar al-Qashaami of the host nation in the men’s 60kg pool.
Võ Văn Đại will fight Roben Josue Cruz Aleman from Mexico and Lê Hoàng Đức will face Nurbolatkzha Omar of Kazakhstan in the men’s 48kg class.
