HÀ NỘI — Hailing from the Republic of Korea, Kim Sang-sik has the highest win rate among national team coaches in Southeast Asia, with a 73.53 per cent record after 34 matches in charge of Việt Nam, according to statistics published by Seasia Goal.
Since taking over Việt Nam in May 2024, Kim has recorded 25 wins, highlighting his strong start with the national team and putting him well ahead of his regional counterparts.
Under Kim, Việt Nam won the ASEAN Cup in 2024 and 2026, strengthening his standing among fans and reinforcing confidence in the team’s progress under his leadership.
According to Seasia Goal, Kim tops the list with a 73.53 per cent win rate, followed by Indonesia’s John Herdman, who has won eight of his 12 matches, drawn two and lost two, giving him a 66.67 per cent success rate.
Malaysia’s Tan Cheng Hoe ranks third with a 60 per cent win rate from 10 matches, recording six wins, one draw and three defeats.
Thailand’s Anthony Hudson is fourth with a 58.82 per cent rate after 17 matches, with 10 wins, three draws and four losses. Singapore’s Gavin Lee ranks fifth, after winning nine of his 17 matches, drawing three and losing five, for a 52.94 per cent win rate.
Philippines coach Carles Cuadrat is sixth with a 50 per cent record, having recorded seven wins, three draws and four defeats in 14 matches.
The figures offer a snapshot of Kim’s record since taking charge of Việt Nam. However, win rates also need to be considered alongside the number of matches played, the strength of opponents and the nature of the competitions involved.
For Việt Nam, the challenge is to maintain their winning form while improving their playing quality, developing younger players and preparing for major future tournaments.
Continued consistency would help Kim strengthen his position in Southeast Asian football as he seeks to lead Việt Nam to further success. — VNS
