HÀ NỘI -- Master Đinh Nho Kiệt brought home a gold medal from the Asian Youth Chess Championships which is ongoing in Almaty, Kazakshtan.

Competing in the U16 Open category, Kiệt won 6.5 points after seven matches and topped the ranking of rapid chess.

His teammate Trần Ngọc Minh Duy bagged silver with six points.

Vietnamese masters also secured four bronzes in the U8 Open by Nguyễn Thanh San, U10 Open by Phan Trần Nguyên Khôi, U12 Open by Lê Anh Tú, and Girls' U8 by Nguyễn Vũ Bảo Châu.

The competitors continue to take part in the standard chess event from June 12-19. The blitz chess will be held on June 20.

The continental championship features all strongest junior players of 32 delegations competing in age groups ranging from U8 to U18 for boys and girls.

Việt Nam have 52 players in Almaty. Among them, Nho Kiệt Bảo Châu, Thanh San, Nguyễn Đức Minh, Trần Ngọc Minh Duy, Đầu Khương Duy, Quan Mỹ Linh, and Hồ Ngọc Vy are expected to bring home more gold medals. VNS
