HCM CITY -- Saigon Heat.EXE proved power to win the third and fourth stages of the 3x3.EXE Premier Vietnam basketball tournament.
In both two finals, the host side defeated Chinese representative Shanghai Surtai.EXE at the Hồ Xuân Hương Gymnasium in HCM City.
In the third stage's final on May 25, Anand Ariunbold pushed Shanghai Surtai ahead with his successful finishes but veteran Nguyễn Huỳnh Phú Vinh shone brilliantly to level the result for the Heat.
Both sides went neck and neck in the rest time to reach 19-all. Shanghai Surtai had chance to finish the match but their players did not succeed with their free throws while Võ Kim Bản was successful with two attempts, ending the match at 21-19 and bringing the win for the Heat.
In the fourth stage a day later, two teams dominated other rivals in the early rounds and qualified for the final.
Jevonnie Scott made up a great debut with the Heat making the whole gymnasium go wild with his crazy slam dunks.
Shanghai Surtai however were not an easy rival. They came from behind to level the score at 18-all.
It was Bản again to prove his key role in the team. His perfect three-pointer in the last seconds helped the Heat end the game at 21-18 and secure their second stage win.
The fifth and sixth stages will be held on June 1-2 at the same venue. VNS
