ĐÀ NẴNG -- Bạc Thị Khiêm won Việt Nam's only gold at the Asian Taekwondo Championship which closed on May 18 in Đà Nẵng City.

There were five Vietnamese fighters in the last day of competitions but only Khiêm advanced to the final of the women's 67kg class at the Tiên Sơn Sports Complex.

The Asian Games bronze medalist, who was seeded No 4, defeated Khussainova Nuray  of Kazakhstan in the first round. She won over Kwak Min-Ju of South Korea in the semi-finals. In the final, she beat Song Jie to top the podium.

Coach Vũ Anh Tuấn said it was a remarkable result for not only Khiêm but also Việt Nam's taekwondo. Last edition, the team did not win any title.

After five days of competitions, Việt Nam won two golds, one silver and 11 bronzes in both poomsae (performance) and kyorugi (combat) events.
